Raja Malaysia Dijemput Lawat Rusia: "Rusia Rakan Kongsi Teguh dan Penting"

KUALA LUMPUR/MOSCOW — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, Malaysia’s Yang di-Pertuan Agong, has described Russia as a “trusted and important partner,” underscoring the enduring spirit of friendship between the two nations. During his six-day historic state visit to Russia, His Majesty emphasized that this shared bond will continue to shape the trajectory of bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of both peoples.
Speaking in Moscow, the King invoked a Russian proverb — “Friendship is more precious than money” — to highlight the values that will guide future cooperation, stressing that this common ethos will bring long-term benefits to both countries.
At the invitation of President Vladimir Putin, Sultan Ibrahim arrived in Russia on August 5, marking the first state visit by a Malaysian head of state since diplomatic ties were established in 1967. On Wednesday afternoon, he was accorded a formal welcoming ceremony at the Kremlin before holding official talks with President Putin in the St. George Hall.
Following the formal session, the two leaders moved to the Green Hall for further discussions on deepening cooperation in areas such as trade, energy, education, and regional connectivity.
President Putin expressed appreciation for the King’s efforts in strengthening Russia’s engagement with other countries in Southeast Asia. He voiced support for Malaysia’s aspiration to become a BRICS partner country, stating:
“We naturally support Kuala Lumpur’s interest in BRICS partnership, and I believe this will positively impact both our bilateral relations and the development of the BRICS grouping itself.”
In his remarks, the Malaysian King reaffirmed his genuine desire to enhance mutual understanding and collaboration.
“Our diplomatic relations began in April 1967 and have now spanned over half a century. I recall that Malaysia was among the earliest ASEAN countries to establish diplomatic ties with Moscow,” he said.
His Majesty also expressed gratitude for President Putin’s warm hospitality and praised his leadership, describing him as a leader of “vision and resilience” who has steered his nation with strength through challenging times.
This landmark visit underscores Malaysia’s balanced foreign policy and its growing engagement with major global players, even amid complex geopolitical dynamics.
